Hello,
I am both excited and humbled to share this message with you as your 13th President of the Michigan Physiological Society. When I migrated into academia from the clinical world 10 years ago, I was happy watching others in MPS leadership and saying to myself, “thank goodness I’ll never have to do that.” Oh, how times have changed. I watched in admiration of the teamwork and collaboration and soon became eager to serve as well. So, thank you MPS community for this amazing opportunity.
While the times are challenging for higher ed and science in general, there’s no greater need to build a community of collective strength. MPS is uniquely positioned to impact the junction between policy, education and public trust. With our outreach initiatives and broad expertise, we can meet the emerging technological and educational needs. Across Michigan, I’ve seen how our colleagues engage diverse student populations while extending physiology into K-12 classrooms and communities—efforts that make me proud to serve you as President.
As we progress our outreach, mentorship and research efforts, MPS should be the go-to community where scientists and practitioners feel welcome and included in the conversation.
Thank you for your ongoing support for the Michigan Physiological Society and the communities it serves. I look forward to continuing the positive spirit as we tackle the challenges that lie ahead. Together, we will leave a better world for our future scientists.
John F. Zubek, DPT
