Brittney G. Borowiec, PhD

About Dr. Borowiec: Brittney G. Borowiec, PhD, is an award-winning zoologist, educator, and freelance science writer and editor. She is an Assistant Professor at McMaster University, where she teaches future nurses about biochemistry, pathophysiology, and nutrition science. Prior to her teaching role, she studied how fish respond to environmental challenges like contaminants, warming, and low oxygen. Dr. Borowiec’s science writing appears in NatureBBC Science FocusPBS EonsCrash Course: ZoologyMassive Science, and elsewhere. Most recently, she’s contributed to two upcoming books: The Big Book of Useless Knowledge (Neon Squid) and Atlas Obscura’s Wild Life: An Explorer’s Guide to the World’ s Living Wonders. Dr. Borowiec is passionate about science communication, especially improving science communication skills in subject matter experts like scientists. In this seminar, she will describe 10 “simple rules” for scientists engaging in science communication, and how these rules can be integrated into a practical framework for planning, developing, and evaluating science communication activities.
